VMote Privacy Policy
VMote is a remote-control app for Valerion projectors. It is an independent app, not made or endorsed by Valerion or AWOL Vision. This policy explains what VMote does with information. In short: VMote doesn't collect personal data, has no accounts, no ads and no analytics of its own, and doesn't sell or share anything. The one exception, limited usage statistics sent by Google's text-recognition component during the optional camera scan, is described below.
What stays on your phone
To control your projector, VMote saves a few settings in its own storage on your phone:
- your projector's IP address on your home network,
- its MAC address (used to wake it from standby),
- its AWOL Link security code, if you set one,
- its model name, as reported by the projector.
These settings never leave your phone except as described below. Uninstalling VMote, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes them. If Android's own backup is turned on for your phone, Android may include these settings in your personal device backup in your Google account, as it does for most apps.
Talking to your projector
VMote communicates directly with your projector over your local Wi-Fi network: it searches the network for projectors, sends commands and reads status. This traffic goes only between your phone and devices on your own network. It is not sent to us or to any server. If you set a security code, VMote uses it to sign in to your projector and does not send it anywhere else.
Camera
VMote asks for camera access only if you choose Scan with camera to read your projector's MAC address from its screen. The camera image is read on your phone by Google's ML Kit text recognition to find the address. Images are not saved and are not sent to us or to Google. You can always type the address instead, and you can turn off camera access at any time in Android settings.
Google ML Kit
The text recognition in the camera scan is provided by Google ML Kit through Google Play services. ML Kit processes images entirely on your device, but it sends Google limited information about how the feature performs, such as device and app details, usage and diagnostic metrics, so Google can maintain and improve it. This is sent encrypted and is handled under Google's Privacy Policy. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure for details.
Children
VMote is not directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
